One element of World of Warcraft that has often been criticized by the community is the growing number of obsolete features that have accumulated over the years: introduced for one or two expansions, and then forgotten when something new and fresh comes into play. takes place. But Patrick Dawson, production manager at Dragonflight, says the team wants to focus more on improving existing features over the long term, rather than introducing new things that get shelved later.

“One of the things we really want to be involved with with Dragonflight is trying to do as much as we can for World of Warcraft,” he says. “That’s why you see things like HUD updates, skill updates, and the crafting system, which are all core, core World of Warcraft stuff that will continue beyond the Dragon Islands and beyond the Dragon Islands.”

Dawson takes a look at some of Dragonflight’s key features announced. It brings a much more customizable HUD with an even smoother default layout aimed at reducing the need for add-ons for casual gameplay, and a major overhaul of the appeal that touches not only Dragonflight’s supplemental recipes, but all of them. craft eras. It also brings back skill trees, albeit much simpler and easier to reconfigure with new features like downloads and basic skills for those who don’t want to go through the theoretically detailed tutorials every patch. Dawson claims that Blizzard plans to keep the trees for multiple expansions rather than adding a new power MacGuffin to the critical tactics each time with their own abilities.

Dawson says this philosophy doesn’t just apply to obvious features. We will also look at the new elements that the hero class Dracthyr brings into the game. For example, Dracthyr Evokers can cast “enhancing” spells, spells that basically have different effects depending on how long they’ve been charged. They’re limited to Dracthyr for now, but Dawson says Blizzard is open to seeing how they can work with other classes once they get a better understanding of how Dracthyr plays in raids, PvP, and in high quality. “We really put a lot of effort into making sure we could customize them as much as possible,” he says. “I think every player on the planet has the ability to create their own unique Dracthyr customization so we don’t have duplicates. While Blizzard has worked over the years to add more options to some of the older game races, Dawson sets this apart from what the team did with Dracthyr. He said older character updates were more about representation, allowing players to see themselves in their characters rather than looking for sheer hardness. While Dawson doesn’t think we’ll see many updates in other races before the launch of Dragonflight, there may be update options for several customizable body types in the future, a feature Dractyr is currently pioneering in the game. alpha.

But there’s one element that Dawson says stands alone with Dragonflight: the new dragon ride feature.

“I think the only thing that’s thematically related to the region you’re going to is riding the dragon, so you stick with the Dragon Islands theme a bit more,” he says. “But beyond that, we’re trying to expand into things that last longer.”
