More on the NPD numbers from June 2016: Overwatch dominates everything

As every month, NPD provides information on hardware and software sales in the video game world. Here are the results June 2016.

The total numbers:

• Hardware : $181.5 million to be one Decrease of 42% compared to June 2015
• Home console and portable gaming : 322 million dollars to be one 20% decrease compared to June 2015
• Physical and PC Steam sales : $27.8 million to be one 20% decrease compared to June 2015
• Accessories : $120.9 million to be one 20% decrease compared to June 2015

The sale includes that of physical stores and stores such as PlayStation Network, Xbox Live and Steam. NPD does not have data from stores like Origin or Uplay, nor does it have data from every publisher. We must therefore be aware that these figures provide a comprehensive overview of the health of the sector.

Compared to June 2015, the performance remains significantly lower because no title had as strong an impact last year as Batman Arkham KnightDue to the sleek versions and new, more powerful models, gamers may be reluctant to buy a device.

The analyst Liam Callahanindicate that it was so 1.8 million fewer games sold, $114 million less.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens couldn’t keep up with The Dark Knight.

The most successful launch in June 2015 was Batman Arkham Knight, which sold five times more units and dollars than Lego’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

In terms of hardware, things don’t look much better for Callahan:

The 15% decrease in average prices and the 32% decrease in units resulted in a decrease of $181 million, a decrease of 42%. The current generation saw a decrease in sales of 43% or 117 million.
