The program consists of three conferences, each with two separate groups representing six countries and regions. These countries and regions are selected based on the number of Overwatch 2 players. The application period for the competition committee begins in February. In addition, all participating countries and regions will host World Cup trials over three weekends in February (10-12 February, 17-19 February and 24-26 February). The league committees are responsible for organizing additional team friendlies in March and finalizing a seven-man group in April.

In addition to the 36 countries and regions selected, the 2023 Overwatch World Championship will feature a wildcard challenge, awarding four additional spots to teams eligible to enter the competition. Details of the wildcard competition will be released in February.

In June, teams in their groups will compete for one of 16 spots in the LAN finals, which will take place in the fall of 2023. Due to the current dynamic in China and the experience that a team from China has always done well (including two-time runners-up in the last two Overwatch World Cups), a team from China will be invited directly to the group stage. There are no World Cup trials in China and the team will not participate in the online qualifiers. The test match phase in China will also be different from other countries/regions. We will share any information regarding this process directly with players in the China region.
