ESL partners with Valve to host The second Counter-Strike Major of 2022 in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro may be unveiled by Dextero.
Sources told Dexerto there are likely plans for an ESL Major called the IEM Rio Major, which will run from October 31 to November 13. If confirmed, the event will mark the return of ESL to its main hosting duties after the previous two events of this caliber. Hosted by StarLadder and PGL.
ᲡIn October, ESL announced that the IEM Rio Major has been discussed with Valve for 2022. The event was originally scheduled for May 2020, under the name ESL One: Rio Major, before being postponed and later canceled due to a global health crisis.
It is not yet clear which venue ESL plans to host in the IEM Rio Major Champions League. In 2020, the tournament playoffs would take place in front of a live audience at the Jeunesse Arena, a multi-purpose indoor arena that hosted the 2017 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational and the Season 8 Pro League Finals. from Rainbow Six Siege 2018 .
As reported by HLTV.org in May 2021, Valve plans to host two CS:GO races in 2022. The operator of the First Grand Tournament, scheduled for May 9-22, remains unclear.
Rio Major’s name change from ESL One to IEM comes after ESL’s lengthy “historic” renewal of its relationship with Intel. Under the new agreement, which began in 2022 and lasts until IEM Katowice 2025, all non-league ESL Pro Tour CS:GO tournaments will be held under the IEM brand.
